Cao Cao's Campaign is the predecessor to the Jiang Wei's Campaign game in the Magic Tower: Three Kingdoms Series, and the pre-predecessor to Chaos Across Time. Following Magic Tower: Three Kingdoms: Swallow the Earth, it serves as the inaugural title of this series. The game features a linear narrative with multiple choices and multiple endings.

In this game, the player takes on the role of Jiang Wei's father (from the next generation's Jiang Wei's Campaign), set in an alternate historical background. The final boss is Cao Cao.

The chests in the starting area provide initial supplies and the General Tokens needed for immediate recruitment upon leaving. After this, recruiting generals requires giving them the corresponding quantity of different tiered General Tokens.

The type and quantity of General Tokens required to recruit a general will vary depending on that general's attribute values and abilities. New General Tokens can be obtained through subsequent quests and chests.

This game follows a linear scenario design. You must defeat the boss of the current stage to progress to the next one – for example, the Village Chief in the starter village.

As it was developed earlier, the combat system lacks an acceleration/speed-up function. However, its gameplay and fun factor were still well-received among players who experienced it.
