Dreamer's Wake is a stylized third person action-platformer collectathon set within the fading dreams of lost souls. Play as a Haniwa (a funerary clay figure from ancient Japan, believed to guard the dead or guide them into the afterlife), and traverse surreal dreamscapes to help put the dead to rest.
Each level is a window into the deceased's subconscious. Leap through the Child's Dream, shifting sands in the Fortune Teller's Dream, the open waters of the Careerist's Dream, and more. Every dream has its own atmosphere, challenges, and a whole hoard of collectibles to find.
Collect all the objects in the world! As you do, you can manage an inventory of "memories" where each one has special properties and abilities while held. Lock on to enemies, and hurl objects with a physics-driven throwing system. Use time rewind to undo mistakes, go ragdoll mid-air to send yourself flying, and master a toolkit of specialized memories to make challenges trivial.
The entire game was inspired one night sitting in bed and randomly thinking of the show Chowder. Remember Chowder? Showing my age a bit. Well, there is a great animation style used in Chowder called screen-locked textures where objects move but the textures comprising their palette do not. Hard to describe without seeing it. As soon as I prototyped, I knew I had to do something weird with it. You'll either love it or you'll hate it. :)
Dreamer's Wake pairs low-poly & retro visuals with screen-locked textures to create a look that feels like a dream playing on an old television. Watch as worlds drain to static before your eyes during first-visit cutscenes. It's your job to restore their dreams from static!
