A co-op colony sandbox where temperature and fluids run on a living cellular-automaton simulation. Terraform a dead world with friends, build a base that runs itself… then watch one leak bring it all down.

OXYTOPIA is a 2D co-op colony sandbox — inspired by Oxygen Not Included and Factorio — built on a single idea: a world where every tile is a cell in a living simulation. Temperature and fluids aren't faked. They emerge from a cellular automaton that runs by the same rules, the same way, every time — for everyone in the game.
So gather some friends, terraform a dead world into a comfortable colony… and then cause a truly spectacular disaster.
Every tile of the map is a cell. Gases and liquids flow, mix, pressurize, and settle between them; heat conducts through rock, pipe, and air; water freezes into ice, boils into steam, and melts down to magma — all from simple rules applied a million times over. Nothing is scripted, so the emergent behavior — the helpful and the catastrophic alike — is real.
Carve into distinct biomes — from frozen crust to caustic depths to a magma core — mine and smelt ore, and climb a research tree that unlocks power, thermal control, pipe insulation, and advanced logistics. Every new tech is another tool for taming — or breaking — the simulation.
OXYTOPIA's simulation is fully deterministic — and that's exactly what makes seamless co-op possible. Host a world and build together today; a lightweight, multiplayer-only Linux dedicated-server command-line tool is planned, so your colony can keep humming even when you've logged off.
A colony this interconnected fails in interconnected ways. One overheated pipe, one mislabeled valve, one gas leak into the wrong room — and the very simulation that made the place livable turns it into a cautionary tale. Rebuild, and do it better. Or worse.
You are welcome to record, stream, and publish video of OXYTOPIA — including monetized videos and live streams — across the full game, the free demo, and any Early Access playtest build. No permission required. Just have fun, and please show us your best disasters.
