This is Alex's story. A mechanic drowning in debt to save his dying mother crosses out one safety check after another on the repair order.
One skipped screw leads to a car accident that kills a child. He lies to himself, lies to everyone — until the lies crush him. His mother dies anyway, and he chooses to end it all with sleeping pills.
