About RKGK / Rakugaki Soundtrack
Soundtrack Composer: Trasto Nueve Vidas
Genre: Techno and Synth Electronica
Music was a key ingredient for RKGK. Since the very beginning, we have wanted to create a game where music had a major role, motivating players to move fast and deface everything around it. Very quickly we realized electronic music suited perfectly our fantasy.
Trasto Nueve Vidas worked very closely with the dev team. On one side, he was composing all the music, but on the other side, he was also in charge of all the audio implementation in the engine, creating all the events that trigger music and audio reactions.
Once the design team had a basic idea of the level they wanted to create, Trasto Nueve Vidas started composing some melodies to portray the correct vibe for the level. At the same, time the art team was working on the set dress and implementing everything on the go.
The music evolves with the skillset of the player. The more the player starts playing with flow and expertise, the more relevant the music becomes.
This was a huge challenge to implement, both creatively and technically. Composing songs that had the space to evolve according to the player's actions turned out to be very difficult.
We wanted to create music for this game that didn't feel gamey. We went to search for inspiration in the underground electronic music scene.
Trasto Nueve Vidas is a very relevant artist in this scene. He has been able to play in some of the most important festivals in the world, like Mutek; so we used this leverage to search for the most interesting music right now.
With this concept, WipeOut has been a huge inspiration for the game, in terms of how they were able to provide a soundtrack with some of the most relevant artists of the underground scene, and helped them become mainstream.
