A city that records everything can still erase a person

Dependent State: The Last Witness is a single-player narrative action-adventure set in a near-future digital city-state, combining story-driven investigation, environmental exploration, dialogue choices, parkour, and close-quarters combat.

You play as 24-year-old Chen Yufei, a “sleeper” temporarily activated by Konggang's covert security apparatus. She is ordered to carry out an operation against tech magnate He Weiguo—but once the mission is over, the authorization chain above her is severed, and every record proving that she acted under orders begins to disappear.

The operative is rewritten as the prime suspect in a state security case. As witnesses and records disappear, Yufei becomes the last person still able to testify to the broken chain.

Yufei secures one final chance: a 72-hour review of the broken authorization chain. Her legal identity is frozen, her freedom to act is severely restricted, and multiple factions begin hunting her.

Before the countdown expires, she must recover deleted mission codes, witnesses, and evidence, uncover who arranged the charge against her, and stay alive before the city finishes deciding who she is.

Reconstruct the evidence within 72 hours

Cross the Financial High District, Old Harbor Gig District, Urban Village, Neon Relationship District, and Industrial Container Port. Search the city for clues, key figures, and surviving records as you reconstruct the truth behind the operation against He Weiguo.

Investigation is more than collecting documents. Observe each scene, understand the people caught inside the case, compare contradictory testimony, and rebuild a chain of cause and effect from records that someone tried to erase.

Make difficult judgments

Decide whom to trust, which questions to ask, and whether to keep following a lead that someone deliberately tried to sever.

What you notice, which questions you ask, and how you treat others can change character reactions, available information, and the way later scenes unfold. The closer Yufei gets to the truth, the harder it becomes for her to walk away from the case.

When the plan collapses, fight your own way out

When an investigation falls apart, it gives way to parkour, chases, and short, dangerous fights. Vault across shelters and scaffolding, move through rooftops, container mazes, and suspended skybridges. Use the environment to slow your pursuers, counter at close range with Bajiquan, and decide whether to reroute, break through, or stand your ground under limited-ammunition pressure.

Not every conflict has to end in violence. Once a situation falls apart, injuries, action choices, and the distance of your pursuers combine to shape how the escape unfolds.

Your choices will be remembered

During her investigation, Yufei meets people used, interpreted, or forgotten by the system. She also finds Mo Li, a maintenance officer trying to escape the Notary's control. Neither woman trusts institutions anymore, yet each may have to place her life in the other's hands.

How much you choose to learn, how you respond to other people, whether you push a situation toward violence, and which evidence you carry into the finale can affect later scenes and relationships.

The story leads to three endings. No choice allows everyone to walk away unharmed.

This is not a story about saving the world

Dependent State: The Last Witness focuses on people used, interpreted, and forgotten by systems. You will not come to understand Konggang by clearing a map full of repetitive markers, but by entering a smaller number of dense, authored situations, meeting specific people, and uncovering conflicting truths behind the same official record.

At first, Chen Yufei only wants to survive the next 72 hours. By the end, she must make a final choice about identity, evidence, trust, and survival—and this time, no one else gets to decide how her story ends.
